VietNamNet Bridge – Twenty-one-year-old model Cao Thuy Duong will represent Viet Nam at this year’s Miss International contest.

The beauty pageant, which gathers 67 beauties from different countries and territories, will take place in Japan, Hong Kong and Macao from October 19 to November 8.

Duong won the Miss Talent due and was among the top 10 finalists of the Miss Sport 2007 in Viet Nam. She said she is preparing for this contest by improving her English skills and knowledge of culture and history.

She is also practising other important skills, including performing, communicating, and doing her make-up.

“I also have practised some martial arts to perform in the exchange programme during the pageant,” said the beauty, who graduated from the Yen Bai Sports College.

During the beauty contest, Duong will present evening dresses by designer Hoang Hai, while her ao dai (traditional dress) will be made by designer David Minh Duc.

Duong, who works as a model with the international modelling agency Elite, will leave Viet Nam on Saturday to join the other contestants in Japan. Duong competed in the same pageant last year and won the Miss International Image title, thanks to on-line votes from the audience.

The Miss International contest was first held in 1961 in Long Beach, California and now is one of the five most prestigious beauty contests in the world.

VietNamNet Bridge – Fashion designer Vo Viet Chung said Universe Joint Stock Company, the organiser of Miss Universe 2008, had invited him to design costumes for more than 120 contestants.

The invitation was sent after Vo Viet Chung designed ao dai for Miss Universe 2007 Riyo Mori, Miss USA 2007 Rachel Rene Smith, and Miss Teen USA 2007 Hilary during their visit to Vietnam several days ago. These girls said they like Vietnamese ao dai very much.

Chung’s ao dai collection was recently introduced on an international fashion TV channel, Fashion TV.

One more beauty queen honoured

VietNamNet Bridge – Miss Tay Do for Vietnamese women who reside in the Mekong Delta, the southeast region or HCM City, closed last Saturday, with the crown belonging to Vu Lan Phuong from Can Tho City.

Phuong, 19, 1.70m tall, body measurement 80 – 60 – 88, also won the Best answer prize. Miss Tay Do 2007 is a second-year student of the Foreign Language Faculty of the Can Tho University. She previously won a prize at the Miss South Mekong 2007 pageant contest and attended the Miss Vietnam Global 2007.

The first runner-up is Nguyen Thi My Thanh, 21, an office staff member from Vinh Long province. She also won the title Miss Thai Tuan and the cooking and rowing prizes in the talent contest, part of Miss Tay Do.

The second runner-up is Huynh Thi Ngoc Linh, 18, from Can Tho City, a student of the HCM City Foreign Trade University.

Other winners are Nguyen Thi Hong Nguyet (HCM City) – Best Body title, Tran Lam Tu Quynh (HCM City) – Beat in Ao dai, and Bui Le Kim Ngoc (HCM City) – Miss Photo.

Miss Vietnam 2006 makes charity DVD

VietNamNet Bridge – Miss Vietnam 2006 Mai Phuong Thuy’s decision to make a DVD for charity is attracting public attention.

The DVD, entitled Wild Flowers, includes 10 chapters about Mai Phuong Thuy’s discoveries about the beauty of Vietnam from the North to the South.

Each area she has passes has a romantic name: Sapa heaven gate, Hai Phong – paradise on the earth, Hung Yen – lotus scent of the North, Hanoi – my hometown, Saigon – Fareast Gem, etc. Mai Phuong Thuy is the DVD’s tour guide around Vietnam’s variety of destinations.

Mai Phuong Thuy’s goals for this DVD is to introduce Vietnam’s beauty to Vietnamese and foreign visitors.

She traveled around the country in 2007 to record beautiful spots in and around 40 different tourist cities. After releasing the first DVD introducing 10 places this February, she will introduce the remaining 3 DVDs in 2008.

Mai Phuong Thuy has invested all of her savings into the 40 tracks and she will donate most of the revenue from the sales of these DVDs to charity activities in 2008.

Miss World 2007 visits Vietnam

VietNamNet Bridge – Miss World 2007 Zhang Zi Lin arrived in Ho Chi Minh City on June 28, beginning her humanitarian and social activities in Vietnam as part of a Miss World’s duties.

During her stay in Vietnam from June 28 to July 10, the beauty queen will call on and present gifts to poor families, disabled children’ centres and HIV/AIDS prevention establishments in a number of localities, including Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Khanh Hoa, Quang Ninh, Tien Giang and Lao Cai.

She will also visit Nha Trang city to attend a parade welcoming the Miss Universe 2008 contest.

Teresa Sam – first runner of the World Beauty Contest for Vietnamese which was held in Vietnam last year – will join Miss World Zhang Zi Lin in her social activities.

Hoang Kieu, chairman of the US company RASS which sponsors the Miss World’s humanitarian activities in Vietnam , said RASS is preparing to apply for hosting the Miss World contest in Vietnam in 2010.

2008 Miss Universe commences in Vietnam

VietNamNet Bridge – A press conference held on June 20 at the Caravelle Hotel in HCM City saw Le Tien Tho, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism open Miss Universe 2008 pageant in Vietnam.

Miss Universe: 40 contestants call on children’s village
