Hong Kong actress gets role in new Vietnamese film

In early December, Hong Kong actress Christy Chung will begin a new role acting in the upcoming Vietnamese movie, Song Long Anh Hung (double dragons), the producers told Thanh Nien.

The movie will be produced by Nam Phuong Entertainment Ltd. Co., Huynh Le Nguyen Film Co. and the Hong Kong-based DEL Production firm.

The 37-year-old actress born to a Vietnamese mother and Chinese father was the runner-up in the Miss Chinese International pageant held in Hong Kong in 1993.

Chung became a well-known star in Chinese popular culture after her role in The Bride with White Hair 2 (1993) and then went on to act in a large number of Cantonese films.

The new film, written by Hoang Ngoc Vu and Thach Nguyen, unfolds during the Prior Le Dynasty and will be co-directed by John Dravermen from the US, Thach Nguyen of Vietnam and Tony Loeng from China, who was the scene-assistant for worldwide renowned director Zhang Yimou.

In addition to Chung, a series of other well-known Vietnamese actors such as People’s Artist Diep Lang, Mac Can, Chi Bao, model Ngoc Quyen, and singer Minh Thuan and Vietnamese-American actress Helen Thanh Dao will have roles in the VND13 billion (US$807,500) film.

The new movie, to be filmed over three months in Vietnam, Malaysia, Hong Kong and China, is set to be released in the summer of 2008.
