VietNamNet – Entertainment products for Vietnamese children are few and far between, while films for children are a rarity in themselves.

While Vietnam is quite capable of producing kid’s toys, most are imported from China. Every year, films for children are released, but only very few are locally produced.

According to a recent survey, every year the accumulative length of cartoons produced in Vietnam is just 100 minutes. Vietnamese cartoons for children are mostly produced by the Liberation Film Company and a handful of smaller film companies.

Vietnam has nearly 30mil children, and with such a large number of youngsters, there is a potential market for cartoon producers. However, while foreign cartoons have been flooding into Vietnam, domestic filmmakers are still waiting for state budget to fund the industry.

There are several projects, which have been or will be launched to produce 3D cartoons for children but the future for Vietnamese cartoon production is still not promising.
